The first Cadillac Block Party
was held on Saturday, August 4, 2001. It was sponsored and coordinated by the Los Angeles Police Department, Council District 10 Nate Holden and his deputy Lisa Coleman and SoRo. It went very well and a good time was had by all!
There were a number of city agencies in attendance to provide services to families for career placements, gang intervention, drug abuse programs, violence prevention, services for children
(mentoring; health services; tutoring; recreational field trips, etc.) to name a few.
There were moon bounces, free barbecue, a DJ, face painting clowns - - all of which was very much enjoyed!
The LAPD had a great presence of about 8 to 10 officers (bike patrol too). SoRo had a table with some of the boards showing our future plans for the area. A special thanks to Allan
Graf, Deni Mosser (with her handy camera), Estelle Tuvman, Suzanne Laff, Terry Delvoye and Cynthia Ojeda (who cut up watermelons all day long) for their participation.
5th District Councilman
Jack Weiss attended with his son to enjoy the festivites and our friend and community historian Greg Fischer also was there to share in some of the historical background of the neighborhood when it first
was developed. The police are planning a community meeting in the next week or so to help create a neighborhood watch program for the area and community organizers Orlando Bonner and Pastor
Ken Autrey are in the process of coordinating a Cadillac Community Council to bring neighbors together. It was a wonderful day.
